This was the shortest international trip we have ever been on but it was sweet enough for a weekend trip. This was my visa trip to France after applying for Schengen visa.
We flew to Dinard airport in France and drove straight to Mont St Michael through the French countryside in the gorgeous red Renault Clio. We parked and were delighted with the far off views of the structure. It was a long walk from the parking to the castle and though there was a free shuttle bus, we decided to walk as the rain had stopped just as we got out of the car.
The shuttle bus had a brilliant design so that it can driven from either end as there was no room to reverse near the castle.
This path would get covered in water during high tide and access to Mont St Michael would be cut off sporadically.
We climbed through different paths and got as high on this mountain as we could. We couldn't help thinking that this would have made a great location for Game of thrones.
We went to a beautiful chapel with this glass painting on the wall.
This sure reminded us of the red keep where Cersei performs the walk of shame.
We decided against going into the abbey but spent the whole afternoon there enjoying the views and ate a gelato. With a heavy heart we bid adieu to this beautiful sight and drove to the hotel which was not too far away in Saint Benoit des Ondes.
We had an early start the next morning and the sleepy town was beautiful.
We stopped at a cafe closeby to get coffee and croissants. The array of food at this shop was sumptuous and it was the first time I drank black coffee which tasted strong and disgusting but I really needed the caffeine hit!
We then drove to Pointe du Grouin which was a peninsula with views on every side and since it was still before eight, the beauty was untouched and the only sounds were that of the ocean and the wind.
We then drove to the nearby town of St Malo which was supposed to have a very long beach but the tide was so high that not only the beach sand was completely covered but the walking promenade kept getting drenched in blasts of current! There was a specific warning sign for just this phenomenon.
We walked on the parapet and around the old town which turned out to be secured within the fort walls.
This church called our attention from the parapet but we shied from going in as a mass was happening, this being a Sunday morning.
It is probably not as easy to discern how massive this church was in a photo but it was pretty impressive.
We then walked back through the new town and a lovely avenue to get the car. It was nearly noon and time to return to the airport.
We said goodbye to the lovely Clio at the airport parking and left to catch a flight to Stanstead.
I did not ever imagine that we could go on a weekend trip to France and see so much. It is a reminder that no matter how short, it is important to keep travelling and exploring as every little bit matters and it all changes a person for the better.
